Music
I have tons of interests - everything from music to asian ball-jointed dolls to airplanes.
I play a whole bunch of different instruments. I started out on piano when I was 7 or so, and took lessons into college. I took clarinet in elementary school, and played that all the way up until 11th grade. That's when I switched to trumpet, which I still play. I've done pit orchestras for 8 or 9 shows, though I haven't been as active with that lately.

I formed a rock band called Naked Singularity with some work friends. This iteration of the band only lasted a little while Here's a pic of the original lineup at our one and only gig..
| The band was reformed in 2001 and stayed that way until 2005 or so. Here's a pic of our first gig. Here's me on the drums! And a group pic of the band! Our drummer left in 2005 or so, and so we now have not only a new drummer, but a new guitarist (my officemate and friend is our newest member). We recently played a few parties - one Beatles themed, and one for a Hubble Servicing Mission where we had a real astronaut play a few songs with us! I like listening to music as well. I like a lot of different music, some of my favorites are the Barenaked Ladies, Guster, Crowded House, Box Set, and of course, the Beatles.
I'm a card carrying member of the Barenaked Ladies fan club, and I've seen them in concert a ton of times. Here are some pics of a 2001 concert, where I got to meet them (along with everyone else waiting outside by the buses).

I really liked Joss Whedon's Firefly TV show. I'm still really bitter about it being canceled. I may look happy over there in my Jayne hat, but I assure you, I'm crying on the inside. |
Some of my other favorite shows are Futurama, Tru Calling, Arrested Development, The Tick (live action), Space Above & Beyond, The Critic, The Lone Gunmen, and Andy Richter Controls the Universe. Oh wait, those were all canceled by Fox too.
Hmm, I liked Daybreak, Freaks & Geeks, Joan of Arcadia, Veronica Mars, Pushing Daisies and Angel. Nope, those were canceled too, just not by Fox.
Of shows currently on the air, I really like Reaper, Bones, Psych, My Boys (I love Trouty!), Battlestar Galactica, Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Mad Men, and The Office, which was somehow spared cancellation. I'm not sure how that one slipped through the cracks!
I'm a big fan of anything Joss Whedon has done - Buffy, Angel, and Firefly. I love the Simpsons...up until about Season 11. It's been a slow, but steady decline, with occasional glimpses of brillance since then. I also love Seinfeld and I can watch reruns of it all day long. I'll admit to a certain guilty pleasure for some reality TV. I love Top Model, Project Runway (OMG, I met Tim Gunn once!) and The Amazing Race - and my friends and I have lunch every Friday to discuss Survivor.
Movie-wise, I love Star Wars. The Original Trilogy. It doesn't get much better than The Empire Strikes Back! I love the costumes in the Prequels, and Episode I Obi-Wan will always have a place in my heart. But that's about the extent of my love for the Prequels. Ok, I also really liked the lightsaber duel between Darth Maul, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. When Harry Met Sally is probably my favorite non-costume movie, and I can quote it ad-nauseum. My comfort movie is Center Stage. I love ballet! I love costume movies of almost any sort and my favorite costume designer is probably Colleen Atwood. I loved the costumes from Lemony Snicket and Sleepy Hollow in particular. My favorite recent costume movie, is Marie-Antoinette, which I am all sorts of obsessed with.
